Charles Lamar Eastland, age 83 passed away Thursday, November 24, 2016 in Hattiesburg. He was born in Greenville and was a resident of Hattiesburg where he was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Central High School, Jackson, Hinds Junior College and Mississippi College. He was an auditor and supervisor for the Internal Revenue Service in Jackson and Austin, Texas from 1961-1970. He then worked for Hancock Bank as a vice-president and trust officer from 1970 – 1995. He previously served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Gulfport Optimist Club and served as President and Lt. Governor of the Alabama-Mississippi District of Optimist International. He was a former member and deacon at Robinson Road Baptist Church, Gulfport. He enjoyed woodworking and living in the Smokey Mountains for nine years.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Woods Caperton Eastland, III; a step-son, James P. Clay, II; and a great grandson, Braxton Eastland.
Mr. Eastland is survived by his wife, La Nelle Brackman Eastland of Hattiesburg; sons, Charles Lamar (Nanette) Eastland of Picayune, James Denson (Mary) Eastland of Gautier; a daughter, Laura LyNette (Kurtis) Windham of McHenry; a step-daughter, Jan (Charles) Jordan of Panama City, FL; two brothers, Gerald Barrett Eastland of Brandon and Harold Crane Eastland of Pascagoula; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
