Charles Edward Scabery, born 1 August 1918, in West Chester, Iowa, died at home in Gulfport, 18 January 2010. Mr. Scabery was the youngest of three sons born to Charles Grover and Ina Mona Scott Scabery. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jessie Anderson Scabery, and brothers Glenn Maxon and Earl Hansel Scabery. His survivors include his daughters, Priscilla Anne Scabery Anderson of Gulfport, MS; Ellen Dolloff of Portland, Maine; son-in-law Vernon LaCour; grandchildren Anne Marie Isaacs (Thomas) of Orlando, FL; Henry Dolloff, Sarah Dolloff Jones, and Christian Dolloff of Portland, Maine; great-grand children Michael Brandon Isaacs of Gulfport, MS; Lindsey Taylor Isaacs of Orlando, FL; Jackson Elwell, Lola and Charles Jones of Portland, ME; nephew Charles Scabery (Caroline) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and niece Edna Raley of Troy, AL. A WWII veteran, Mr. Scabery received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Distinguished Service Cross for his meritorious actions in the Ruhr River Valley during the Battle of the Bulge. A memorial service will be held Friday, 22 January 2010, from 4:00 to 6:00 P. M. at 27 53rd Street, Gulfport, MS. Burial will be Saturday 23 January, at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia, MS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mississippi Spay and Neuter at MS Span, 2104 Brandon Road, Pearl, MS 39208.
