Charles L. "Chuck" Murphy, 72, of Gulfport, died Friday, May 19, 2006 in Gufport. He was born in Washington D.C. and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1977.
Mr. Murphy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport, where he was an usher and a member of the Scrap Iron Sunday School Class. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, in Korea and Guam in the 822nd U. S. Army Engineer Battalion. He retired in 1988 from the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office after more than 37 years as a Cartographer/Illustrator in Suitland, MD and Stennis Space Center in Bay St. Louis, MS.
Chuck and Voncille taught round dancing at Herbert Wilson Recreation Center for many years. They were members and instructors of the Tic Toc Rounders and Chuck was treasurer of MS Round Dance Association for several years. He was an honorary member of Belles and Buoys, Star Twirlers and Magnolia Swingers.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Murphy.
He is survived by his wife, Voncille Murphy of Gulfport; a daughter, Diana Lynn Malin of Harrington, DE; a step-son, Steve Hicks and wife, Edith of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Charlyne Lewis of Silver Springs, MD and Mary Catherine Jones, of Mineral, Virginia; two granddaughters, Hannah McMullen and Shelly Laine Risinger; and a great-granddaughter, Kaia McMullen.
The funeral service will be Monday, May 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens, Long Beach.
