Charles T. Simon, 95, of Biloxi, MS died on October 4, 2011 after a brief illness. He was born in Biloxi and was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He graduated from Biloxi High School and was a prominent business man. He started a service station on the corner of Main and Division Streets in 1935 through 1960. He maintained rental property at the same location for numerous years. He held the position of County Bondsman under Sheriff Eddie McDonald for many years in the 1960’s. He became a member of the Knights of Columbus #1244 in 1939. He was instrumental in establishing the present location for the organization. He was a 4th Degree Knight at the D'Iberville Assembly. He was also a charter member of that assembly. He was also a member of the International Order of Alhambra. He was the oldest member of all three organizations. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge 606. He was known as “Uncle Charlie” to everyone he met. He loved spending every day cooking and visiting with friends at his property on the Tchoutacabouffa River, more commonly known as “The Farm”. It was the gathering place for many family and friends for the past 79 years. He was a Catholic and a lifelong member of Nativity BVM Cathedral. He will be sadly missed by all the lives he touched in his 95 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Katherine Simon; his brothers, Sie, Joe and George Simon; sisters, Mary Rose Thomas, Evelyn Plakey, Adelle Todaro. He is survived by his sisters, Alice Neal and Betty (Richard) Benton and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, October 7, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral, Biloxi. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:00 am at Nativity BVM Cathedral in Biloxi, MS where friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until mass time. Interment will follow in Biloxi City Cemetery. The family prefers memorials to: St. Vincent de Paul, C/O Nativity Cathedral or the Knights of Columbus Doll and Toy Fund, 717 Water Street, Biloxi, MS.
