Mr. Charles V. "Charlie" Polite, age 88, of Biloxi, MS., died Wednesday, September 14, 2005, in Biloxi.
Mr. Polite was a native and longtime resident of Baton Rouge and a Biloxi resident for the past 60 years. He helped to construct the Huey P. Long Bridge in New Orleans. As a member of the Louisiana National Guard he stood guard at the casket of Huey P. Long in the Louisiana State Capitol Building.
Mr. Polite was preceded in death by his first wife, Mandina Polite, parents, Joseph and Ruth Polite, sister, Ruth Teekel, three brothers, Joel, Webb, and Thomas Polite, and great-grandson, Zachary Fayard. He is survived by his wife, Hazel "Betty" Polite of Biloxi, daughter, Diane Barhanovich and husband, Kenny, of Biloxi, two sons, Chuck Polite and wife, Kathy, of Ocean Springs, and Anthony Polite and wife, Kathy, of Woolmarket, two stepdaughters, Karen Sullivan and husband, Richard, of Ellisville, MS., and Robin Spratley and husband, Larry of North Biloxi, two stepsons, Grey Slay and Ray Slay both of Biloxi, and a sister, Lil Robertson of St. Paul, MN., sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 23, 2005, from 1-2 PM, with a 2 PM chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the American Heart Association.
