Charles W. Blackwell, Jr., age 84, of Saucier, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in Gulfport. He was born in Pearl River County and was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Poplar Head United Methodist Church and was retired from the Veterans Administration Center where he was a nursing assistant.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Washington Blackwell, Sr. and Denish Williams Blackwell; a son, Eddie Lee Blackwell; a step-daughter, Jerri Andrews; two sisters, Vera Broadus and Dorothy Reeves; and two brothers, Theodore Blackwell and John Blackwell.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife, Doris Blackwell of Saucier; a son, Paul Wallace of Saucier; a sister, Ruby Patton of Gulfport; a brother, Joe Blackwell of Long Beach; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service is Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Gardens, Gulfport.
