Mr. Charles W. "Speedy" Stryker, age 87, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Saturday, June 4, 2005, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Stryker was a native of upstate New York and had been a coast resident since 1989. He retired from the Naval Service Weapons Center as a machinist after more than 30 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the Army Air Corps. Mr. Stryker was a longtime member of the V.F.W., the Issac Walton League and the First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. While a member of Colesville Baptist Church in Silver Springs, Maryland, he taught two and three year olds for 35 years. Mr. Stryker was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frances Stryker, sisters, Leah Dean and Faith Slater, and a brother, George Stryker. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maybelle J. Stryker, of Ocean Springs, two daughters, Patricia Stryker of Ocean Springs and Sarah Thomas and husband, David, of Virginia Beach, VA., one sister, Florence Stevens of Naples, FL., a brother, Carl Stryker of North Carolina, and two grandchildren, Amanda Thomas and Jonathan Thomas, both of Virginia Beach, VA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, from 12 Noon - 2 PM, with a 2 PM chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to The First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs Building Fund, 602 Washington Avenue, Ocean Springs, MS., 39564.
