Chevis Dwight Mott, 59, passed away at his home in Houma, Louisiana on Friday, February 22. He was born in Gulfport, November 26, 1953.
Chevis graduated in 1973 from Gulfport East High School and attended MS Gulf Coast Community College where he studied Business Management. Although in recent years he worked off-shore with Coastal Catering he had previously held management positions with Casino Magic and Circle K Corporation. Chevis will best be remembered as the manager of several Gulfport nightclubs during the 1970’s and 80’s. Chevis was loved by all who knew him as a guy with an easy smile, a quick wit and a generous heart. He was a long-time member of the Mobile Krewe of Mystic Cain Raisers and was in fact the 1973 Banana Eating Champion of Gulfport East High School.
He is preceded in death by his father, William Andrew Mott; his mother, Mary Frances (Kimbell) Carlstead; and his step-father, James H. Carlstead.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, David & Suzanne Mott of Roswell, Georgia.
A celebration of his life will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street Chapel in Gulfport on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. Friends may visit from 5:00 p.m. until service time.
