Mrs. Clara Cheever Ellis Buchanan, age 77, of Vancleave, MS., died on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, in Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Buchanan was born on February 24, 1932, in Vancleave, MS. She taught public school music in Ocean Springs for one year and was an elementary school teacher in Biloxi for 31 years. She was a member of the Vancleave United Methodist Church and was an accomplished pianist who loved people and will be remembered for her contagious laugh.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Granville Elson Buchanan, her father, Benjamin Edward Ellis, mother, Jimmie Manning Ellis and brother, Benjamin Edward Ellis, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Gina (Michael) McDaniel, grandson, Devin (Keri) McDaniel, granddaughter, Audrey (Jared) Locklear and one great-granddaughter, Addison Paige Lockler. She is also survived by her brother, Ivan (Linda) Ellis, two sisters, Bea (Jake) Flemming and Judy Majkowski, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Last but not least her beloved pet, Miss Kitty.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 29, 2010, from 5 PM - 7 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Saturday, January 30, 2010, there will be an 11 AM church service at Vancleave United Methodist Church, where she will lie in state from 10 AM - 11 AM. Burial will follow in Vancleave #2 Cemetery, east of highway 57.
