Col. Philip R. Deubler, Sr., 89, of Biloxi, MS, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his home in Biloxi.
Col. Deubler was a native of Brooklyn, New York and lived his teenage years in Sheepshead Bay, NY. He had been a resident of the coast since 1960. He was a 1941 graduate of the University of Alabama and entered the Army/Air Corp, spending eight years in England, France and Germany during WW II. He had a passion for the service as reflected in his expedited promotions to Captain on October 20, 1942 in Atlantic City, NJ, to Major in 1943, to Lt. Colonel in June, 1947, and named Base Commander at Fort Slocumb and then promoted to full colonel on Feburary 14, 1950 when he was 34 years old. After his tenure in Korea he was assigned to the Pentagon as Deputy Provost Marshall and Director of Security Forces.
Mr. Deubler was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Kelly Deubler. Survivors include his daughter, Lillian D. Tate and her husband, Eddie, of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Philip Deubler, Jr. and his wife, Sabrina, of Biloxi, and Jimmy Deubler of D'Iberville, and three grandchildren, Ryan C. Tate, Jordan A. Tate, and Jimmy Crochet of Destin, FL.
Col. Deubler was an avid reader with a vast acumen for history. He lived his life with a commitment to honor and a conviction to always do the right thing. It has been said that integrity is what you do when no one is looking and his integrity was unparalled.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 18, 2006, from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. A procession will leave the funeral home at 12:45 p.m. for 1 p.m. graveside services at Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors.
