Curtis "Kurt" Shook

Mr. Curtis “Kurt” D. Shook, 75 of Gulfport died Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Gulfport. Mr. Shook was born in Clay County, Iowa and had been a resident of the coast for 12 years. He served as a military policeman in the United States Marine Corps and later worked as an accomplished salesman for several companies. Mr. Shook was an avid outdoorsman and golfer, but he eventually focused solely on his other favorite pastime, the game of Bridge. He was a member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bridge Association; where he attained the coveted title of “Life Master” and went on to spend his remaining years working as an instructor for new players. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lucille, his two sisters, Connie and Dixie, his former wife Vivian, and his former wife Karen. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Shook of Gulfport; his brother, Dan (Mary Ellen) of TX; two sons, Eric of WI and Arlie of TX; three stepsons, Tony (Gloria) of WI, Patrick (Donna) of MS, and Jimmy of TX; three stepdaughters, Toni (Eugene) of MS, Alice of AZ, and Linda of WI; one grandson, Cody of TX; two granddaughters, Allison of AZ and Dorrie of MS; as well as eleven nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Mr. Shook’s accomplishments cannot all be expressed with worldly designation. Even those who did not know him will feel his profound effect on the world. A source of peace and strength; he will be greatly missed and forever celebrated. Private services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery.
