David Allen Powell, Jr., age 66, of D'Iberville, MS, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, in Biloxi.
David was born in Biloxi and a graduate of Notre Dame High School. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served his country from 1966 to 1973, during which time he was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star and other awards. David served as Harrison County Deputy Tax Assessor from 1986 until his retirement from that position in 2006. As an avid outdoorsman, David enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and gardening. He was a member of Elk's Lodge #606, Magnolia Lodge #120 F&AM, and the Biloxi Yacht Club.
David was preceded in death by his parents, David Allen and Dorothy Trochesset Powell. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eugene Anthony and Suzanne Powell of Chicago; two daughters, A. Michelle Powell of Columbia, Il, and Lisa Renee Powell of Anchorage, AK. His grandchildren are Jennifer Leann, Sadie Marie, and Emery Bryce Powell. David's sisters are Elizabeth Douchet of Biloxi and Carol Broussard of Ocean Springs. His brothers are Wallace Powell of D'Iberville, Johnnie Powell of Biloxi, Willie Powell of Gulf Hills, and Francis Powell of Biloxi. David is also survived by his fiancee, Murella H. Powell, of Biloxi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
