David Earl Hood

David Earl Hood, age 79, of Long Beach, MS, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023. He was born September 9, 1943, in Jacksonville, FL, and grew up living in Meridian, MS. He moved to Long Beach, MS, in 1981, where he was the pharmacist for Big B Drugs, Walgreens, and Long Beach Pharmacy.

Mr. Hood attended high school at Meridian High School, and then went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman. He attended Meridian Jr. College, and then graduated from The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy in 1969.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hood; siblings, Dorothy (Jack) Adams, Amelia Roach, and Edwin Hood, Jr. He is also preceded in death by his son, Van Buren Martin Hood.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Williamson Hood, of 52 years; his daughters, Marion Hood and Frances (Lonnie) Burch, and two granddaughters, Shelby Burch and Olivia Hood. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and family.

David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He loved serving his community as a pharmacist in Long Beach. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed gardening and rooting for Ole Miss football.

Services will be held at St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church in Gulfport, MS on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 10:30am, with visitation beginning at 9:30am.  A reception with light refreshments will be held in the parish hall immediately following the service. The burial will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fayette County, TN, on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at 9:00am.
