Mr. David J. Ward, Sr., age 75, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Wednesday, January 10, 2007, in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Ward was a longtime resident of the coast. He was a disabled Korean Veteran, who served on the USS Piedmont AD, and was stationed in the Korean Straits. He helped bring Amateur Boxing back to Biloxi. He also served as a coach and officer for the Biloxi/Southern Little League Baseball and the pony and colt leagues. Mr. Ward was a member of the Elks Lodge for 42 years and a member of the Church of the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Biloxi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ollie Young Ward and sister, Doris Wagner.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bobbie Rosalis Ward, two sons, David J. (Sheila) Ward, Jr., all of Ocean Springs and Rod Steven (Aline) Ward of Bay St. Louis, MS., daughter, Terry (Steven) Cates of Ocean Springs, grandchildren, Jim and Brad Cates and Josh Mayfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 12, 2007, from 9-10 AM, with a 10 AM chapel service, all at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Biloxi
National Cemetery with an Elks graveside service.
