David Lafayette Mallett

Mr. David L. Mallett, 79, of Vancleave, died Friday, January 7, 2011, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Mallett was born August 18, 1931, in D'Iberville to Fred and Virda Mallett. He was a member of the Jackson County School Board, and Mississippi Cattlemen Association. He was the owner of the family business, "Mallett Custom Slaughter House" and retired from International Paper Company as a printer. He served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Mallett is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Coy Ann Mallett; his parents, Fred and Virda Mallett; three brothers, Lamar, Fred and Presley "Doc" Mallett; and three sisters, Thelma Crosby, Ione Everett and Hilda Deane. He is survived by his son, Rufus (Janie) Mallett of Grand Bay, AL; daughter, Myrna Lynne (Paul) Baricev of Vancleave; three brothers, Rufus, Harrell and Jerry Mallett; two sisters, Virda Davis and Patsy Neal; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Brigitte, and Brandon Mallett, and Anthony and David Baricev; three very close family friends, Larry, Garry and Floyd Myers, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2011, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 4901 Jim Ramsey Road, in Vancleave. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Chruch with Rev. Robbie Murden officiating. Mr. Mallett will lie in state from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in Vancleave No. 1 Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 13620 Hwy. 57, Vancleave, MS 39565.
