Gulfport

David James Manifold, age 77, of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2024.

Dave was born on May 24, 1947, to George Olan Manifold and Mary Fargo in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Oxford, Mississippi when Dave was in high school so that his father could teach in the Engineering Department at the University of Mississippi. Dave graduated from University High School in Oxford and attended the University of Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, History, Political Science, English and Business. He attended Tulane University, where he earned a Master of Business Administration and later attended the University of New Orleans, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Economics. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Southern Mississippi in Mass Communications/Media Studies.

Dave worked as a CPA at Arthur Andersen LLP in New Orleans, LA, and later at Bancorp South in Gulfport, MS. He started his private CPA practice in Gulfport in 1979. Dave served as Chief Financial Officer and Program Director at the Mississippi Space Commerce Initiative from 1999 to 2003. Following Hurricane Katrina, Dave and Kim moved to Lenoir, North Carolina, where he joined the CPA firm of Huntley, Sigmon, & Associates. Throughout his career, Dave brought his business expertise and leadership skills to each of the companies he worked with.

Dave was a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Rotary Clubs in Gulfport and Lenoir. He was also a member of the Mississippi CPA Society, the North Carolina Society of CPAs and Leadership Caldwell in Lenoir, North Carolina.

Dave loved playing baseball, basketball, tennis, and golf, but he especially loved coaching his sons in baseball and soccer. Dave’s faith was a very important part of his life; he was blessed with a beautiful voice and shared his gift through singing in church, being a member of the Chancel choir, the II Corinthians small group and singing solos and duets. His favorite was when he sang with his daughter or granddaughter.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lee Manifold.

He is survived by his wife, Kim Pringle Manifold and by his children, Shan Manifold, Leigh Manifold Colbet, Michael Pringle, and Matthew Pringle. “G-Dad” is survived by his beloved granddaughters, Haleigh, Isabel, Olivia, and Julia. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Smith, and brother, Bill Manifold, as well as his nieces and nephews.

Dave was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
