David Martin "Camp" Mohler

David Martin Mohler, or “Camp” as he was affectionately known, was born in Biloxi on March 18, 1959. David was a life-long resident of Ocean Springs, MS, and passed from this life into the arms of his loving Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 12, 2021. A devout Catholic, David was a life-long parishioner of St. Alphonsus in the city of Ocean Springs, where he graduated from Ocean Springs High School in 1978, and later built a beautiful life with his beloved family. At the age of 24, David took over ownership and operations of the TatoNut Shop from his father in 1983. His dedication to creating and serving “The Only Real Donut” was rewarded with both national attention and local devotion. Over the years, he was awarded “2010 Business of the Year” by the Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce; received multiple Sun Herald “Peoples’ Choice” awards for “Best Donuts;” and recognized as “The Best Donut” in the state of Mississippi by several organizations. David’s legacy will be remembered by hundreds of the employees he hired, trained and mentored over 37 years, giving many of them their “first real job.” For anyone who has worked for David and the Mohler family, they will never forget his work ethic: pour your heart and soul into everything you do and always provide a joyful experience. David’s generosity and support for his community extended well beyond the doors of his business. From sponsoring little league teams to his partnership with The Lord is My Help local food bank, David was committed to serving others and giving back. After losing his daughter Sophia to brain cancer at a very early age, David continued to help other families in need at the Make-a-Wish Foundation in South Mississippi and The Ronald McDonald House in Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verona “Nonie” and Robert Mohler; his daughter, Sophia Marie Mohler; and his brothers, Michael and Greg Mohler. David is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Mohler; his daughter, Katelyn Mohler; brothers, Jerry Mohler, Mark (Debbie) Mohler, Richard “Brick” Mohler, Jeff “Bitty” (Kathy) Mohler; and numerous extended family members. Visitation will be at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home on Sunday, January 24 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in Ocean Springs. Mass will be held at St. Alphonsus on Monday, January 25 at 11:00 am. Internment following at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Make a Wish Foundation or Ronald McDonald House of Mobile.
