David Jay Sawyer

David Jay Sawyer, age 63, of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019. David resided in Gulfport for eleven years. He served in the United States Navy, retired and was a veteran of the first Gulf War. He received his bachelor of science in education from Arkansas State University. David enjoyed watching sports, especially the Razorbacks, and had a great interest in history. He loved teaching Sunday school at Temple Baptist for five years and enjoyed singing with his wife in the choir every Sunday and Wednesday. Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Mila Gonzaga Sawyer, his parents L.J. and Erleen, siblings John and Carla, children Jay, Jessica and James, and grandchildren Emma and Lily. A service will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at 4:00 p.m., with a reception to follow at Temple Baptist Church, Gulfport, MS.
