Deborah Ann “Debbie” Haydel of Houston, TX, formerly of Gulfport died unexpectedly December 24, 2011 in Houston. Debbie is the beloved daughter of Margaret Haydel and the Late Leo J. “Pete” Haydel. She is survived by her brothers, James Thomas Haydel, Gerald William Haydel and Michael David Haydel, all of Gulfport and her sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Stephen Scafidi of Malabar, FL. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sherry Haydel of New Orleans. In addition, she is survived by her nieces, Madelaine Haydel and Annie Scafidi and her nephews, Mathew and Alex Scafidi. She is preceded in death by her brother, Leo J. “Joey” Haydel of New Orleans and her grandparents, Hershel and Josephine Drye and George and Clementine Haydel.
Debbie was kind, compassionate, loving and a good friend to many. She loved her family immensely. Debbie, who was very outgoing, had a great sense of humor. She could easily make people laugh and smile. She had a host of friends in Houston and Lake Charles, LA. Debbie loved to travel and did so throughout the U.S. and Europe. She visited the Virgin Islands and liked it so much, she returned to live and work there for 3 years before returning to favorite city, Houston.
Following her 1975 graduation from Gulfport High School, she went on to complete 4 years at the University of Southern MS where she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. She worked in the legal profession her entire career. Her employer at time of death was Trans Ocean in Houston.
Debbie was Catholic and could be seen every Sunday at 6 pm Mass at St. Michael’s of Houston.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gulfport on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 1:00 pm with visitation starting two hours prior at the church.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
