Major Dennis Lawrence Cenac, Jr., age 72, of Gulfport, MS, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013, in Gulfport.
Maj. Cenac was born in Houma, LA and had been a resident of the MS Gulf Coast since 1984. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry in 1963 from Louisiana State University and his Master's Degree in Counseling and Guidance in 1974 from Troy State University. Maj. Cenac retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1984 after 20 years of service. During his military career he served as Squadron Commander, Wing Chief of Maintenance Management, Chief of Avionics and Avionics Squadron Supervisor. He was the recipient of many meritorious awards and citations including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (twice) and the Commendation Medal (twice).
After his retirement from the military he was employed with the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi where he served as Diocesan Counselor. He was instrumental in the resettlement of refugees and was a caseworker as an immigration and naturalization assistance provider. He was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
Maj. Cenac was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Emerite Cenac. Survivors include his wife, Marie Sylvia Cenac; children, James, Frankie, Amy, Jeffrey and Mary; step-children, Karen and Didier; sister, Kathleen; brother, Greg; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where friends may visit from 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will be Monday, November 11, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi is in charge of arrangements.
