DeVeaux (Deedy) Walker Munro, 87, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009, at home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Mrs. Munro was born in San Antonio, TX to the late Wilfred E. and Mrytle Wood Walker. Deedy grew up in New Orleans, LA, working at D.H. Holmes where she built a foundation in the retail fashion industry. In 1952, she moved with her family to the coast and opened Deedy’s Dress Shop in Biloxi. Mrs. Munro then relocated the business to Ocean Springs in 1972, with the opening of Deedy’s Famous Dress and Bridal Shop within Deedy’s Shopping Village. Deedy was in the retail business for 60 years, dressing many generations throughout the south. Among her many distinguished accolades, Deedy received the Rose Award, presented annually to an outstanding retailer of style by the Dallas Apparel Mart. She was also a former member of the Biloxi Garden Club, Les Masques, Gulf Coast Carnival Association, and The Biloxi Yacht Club.
For 47 years, Deedy was married to the late Donald Charles Munro, and is preceded in death by her son, John Currie Munro, and grandson, William Scott Baxter. She is survived by her three children; Lloyd Mason Baxter and his wife, Branda, Donald Charles Munro and his wife, Julia, and DeVeaux Munro Cart and her husband, Bobby; and her grandchildren, Michael Baxter, Ashley Davis, Amelie Davis, Chase Munro, Laura Munro, Robbie Carter, Kevin Carter, Whitney Carter, Savanah Hankins, and Stephanie Hankins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs where friends may visit from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Southern Memorial Park.
