Diane Lusk Miller, 65, beloved daughter of Ernest and Margaret Braun Hartmann, departed this life on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.
Diane was a graduate of Biloxi High School and Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing. Following graduation, she worked as a nurse in serveral hospitals until focusing her career on the well-being of children. She lovingly cared for the pediatric patients of Dr. Max Curry for serveral years prior to joining the nursing staff at Biloxi Public Schools, eventually serving as Coordinator of School Nurses. Diane positively impacted the lives of many Biloxi school children for more than 26 years. She was honored by the Mississippi School Nurses' Association when she was enshrined into the Mississippi School Nurse Hall of Fame in 2006. At different times during her life, Diane was active in the Biloxi Yacht Club, Biloxi Babe Ruth Baseball, Biloxi High Indians Baseball, Special Olympics, Mississippi School Nurses' Association and First United Methodist Church of Biloxi.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Hartmann.
Left to mourn her loss is her devoted husband, Michael R. Miller; sons, Fred and Scott (Misty) Lusk; grandchildren, Isabella, Olivia, and Harrison Lusk and mother, Margaret Hartmann. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Joy (Jack) Aregood, and Karen (Pete) Capuano; step-sons, Scott (Stephanie) and Sean (Danielle) Miller; step-daughter, Michelle (Mike) Freck; eight step-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Because of Diane's work on behalf of children and her own personal courageous but ferocious battle against cancer, the family prefers donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the cancer research and/or treatment organization of the donor's choice.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until mass time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
