Dimple Rivers (Lindsey) McVeay, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, went home to be with The Lord and her precious soul mate on Saturday, April 8th at the age of 88. Dimple was blessed to be surrounded by her five living children at her daughter’s home in Ocean Springs. Dimple was loved by everyone who knew her, but especially by her family, as was attested by the tears shed at her bedside.
Dimple was born in Amory, Mississippi on May 10, 1934, the youngest of four children. She grew up in Pascagoula, Mississippi and met the love of her life, Jim (affectionately referred to as “Jimmy”), at Pascagoula High School. The 16-year-old Dimple and the 19-year-old Jim were married on December 26, 1950 by the Justice of the Peace, so that she could be with him when he left for his first duty assignment in the Army. They were married for 69 years and had six children together. While Jim was the big Army hero, Dimple was always the quiet presence beside him who gave him his unfailing strength and support. Dimple became a mother at 17 years old and spent her entire life raising and loving her children. She was their biggest champion and encourager. She was simply the wind beneath their wings. After her children were grown, she poured that same love into her grandchildren, the kind of love that could never be expressed in words.
Dimple is preceded in death by her husband, Riley James “Jim” McVeay; her son, Keith McVeay; her parents, James Claude and Birdie Lee (Fears) Lindsey; her sister, Muriel Dean Presley; and two brothers, Odis and Douglas Lindsey.
Survivors include her son, David McVeay; four daughters, Patrice (Wray) Simpkins, Sonja (Mike) Ducote, Gina (Troy) Escher-Brown, and Robin (Todd) Hayes; grandchildren, Wray Simpkins, Jr., Tonja Pease, Leanna Hamburg, Clint Simpkins, Destin McVeay, Skyler McVeay, Corbin McVeay, Anthony Ducote, Rylee Cates, Zak Ducote, Seth Adcock, Jordan Adcock, Colten Stein, Tyler Hayes, Connor Hayes, Brynlee Hayes, and Jaxon Hayes; as well as 16 great-grandchildren (with two on the way this year).
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Church of Christ on Washington Avenue with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs.
A very special thank you to her daughter and son-in-law, Patrice and Wray Simpkins, for taking such amazing care of her in their home for the last few years. Dimple considered herself very blessed to have such loving care by her daughter.
