Dolores H. Greer

With a mixture of joy and sadness, the family of Dolores H. Greer (88) announces that she went to be with her Savior on November 28, 2020. Her daughter and son-in-law were by her side at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport when she passed. She was born to Woodfin and Amerell Hoover on November 2, 1932 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. Dolores graduated from Bell Buckle High School in 1950. She was married twice, once to the father of her two children and then to James Greer in October 1974. She is survived by her children, Kim Manifold (David) of Long Beach, MS and William (Art) Patey (Donna) of Vallejo, CA, and James Greer Jr (Jim) of Lexington, KY, by her grandchildren Shan Manifold, Leigh Manifold Colbet (Damien), Michael Pringle (Jennifer), Matthew Pringle (Shaylah), Ty Greer and by her great-granddaughters Haleigh, Isabel, Olivia and Julia. Her nieces and nephew (Patrice, Debbie, Steve and Pam) remain who will remember her by her childhood nickname - Lucy. She is predeceased by her husband James Greer, sisters Rosemarie Healey and Tina Drake, and brother Joe Brice Hoover. Dolores was a legal secretary, apartment manager, property manager, and a medical secretary prior to retiring to be a full time homemaker in Brandon, MS. Her husband, Jim’s job took them to Bucks County, PA, and Fort Lauderdale, Fl, before they built their retirement home in Keowee Key, SC in 1990. After Jim passed in 1991, Dolores remained in Keowee Key until 1994, when she moved back to Brandon, MS. Her faith had been her guiding light over the years. She was an active member of Crossgates United Methodist Church for many years and more recently at Brandon First United Methodist Church. For many years, her ministry was to drive individuals to and from physician’s appointments or medical treatments. Dolores regularly contributed favorite recipes to church cookbooks and casserole sales. She made her Cursillo in 1995 and was nicknamed DeColores Dolores. She regularly attended monthly Ultreya gatherings while living in Brandon. She lived the mission of Cursillo - make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ. She moved to Long Beach in 2018 to live with her daughter and son-in-law and be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She rejoined Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport, where she had raised her children and been a member for many years. She left behind dear friends within her church and Cursillo communities. Dolores will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is safely in the loving arms of Jesus and at peace. A memorial service was held on December 12, 2020 for close family members only in the chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to Brandon First United Methodist Church, Crossgates United Methodist, Trinity United Methodist Church, the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street in Gulfport, is honored to serve the Greer family.
