Don Eglin Burch, beloved husband and father, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the age of 56. He was born on May 9, 1962 in Biloxi, Mississippi, to the late Donna Mercedese Burch and the late Paul Ellzey Burch. He was preceded in death by his nephew and godson, Nicholas Ederer. Don is survived by his loving wife, Leslie Ordone Burch and his adoring son, Micah Hill; brother, Paul Burch; sister, Donell Ederer; brothers-in-law, Lani Ordone, Jeremy Ordone (his wife Monica); sisters-in-law Jennifer Frickey (her husband Boyd), Billie Mars; nieces, Mindy Kirk (her husband Steve), Ashlee Stamatovich, Jada Wilson (her husband Tyler), Mackenzie Ordone, Allison Ordone, Madison Ordone; nephews, Michael Ederer (his wife Wendy), Joab Frickey, Alexander Ordone; great nieces, Alyssa, Chloe, Isabelle, Milana, Adelina; great nephews, Tanner, Will, Tyler, Rivers, Kash, Nehemiah.
Don grew up in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and graduated from Ocean Springs High School. He later attended Mississippi State University where he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering in 1989. Don spent his entire career working in the oil and gas industry working for different offshore contractors and oil companies starting as a Field Engineer and moving up through several capacities to Project Director. In later years, he started his own project consulting business, which was very successful. He was extremely proud of this endeavor and having professional independence gave him a great sense of fulfillment. Don worked on many international projects and traveled all over the world during his career but he only ever wanted to be at home in Katy, Texas with Leslie, Micah and their dogs Rosie and Thor. He liked a simple life of being at the house, walking with his dogs, tending to his garden, eating his favorite home cooked meals and watching Fox News and sports.
Don was an avid golfer who shared his passion for golf with his close friends and with Micah. The few trips he made to the Masters Tournament with them made lasting memories he talked about often and fondly. It gave him such great pleasure to teach a young Micah everything about golf and as Micah went on to play high school and college golf, Don looked on and coached him with immense pride – he was Micah’s biggest fan. He was a sports lover with a man cave in his home and spent much of his free time watching golf, the Houston Rockets and Astros, the New Orleans Saints and most of all, Mississippi State football – GO DAWGS! Don enjoyed many vacations with his family, almost all of which revolved around salt water, golf or football games. Growing up on the Gulf shore of Mississippi, he had a life long love for the open water and had hoped to retire somewhere close to the coast.
Family was always paramount in Don’s life and that was evident to everyone who knew him – he had a complete and undying love for his family, especially for the all the little ones who adored their Uncle Don. On the last day of his life, he played golf in the morning with a dear friend; he came home and watched Mississippi State win their second game of the season then spent a fun night out with Leslie, Micah and family – he died a happy man.
Don was a handsome, intelligent and generous man. He was funny and kind. He was loved, adored and admired by so many but by none more so than Leslie and Micah. Don was a very integral part of a large, loving family and his absence leaves a gaping hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Rest in peace, honey.
