Mr. Donald "Don" John Port went to be with our Heavenly Father Friday, November 9, 2012. He was born June 27, 1926, in Tulsa, OK.
He served in the U. S. Navy and fought in World War II. He also worked 20 years for the Boeing Company in Wichita, KS and New Orleans, LA. He last worked for Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. He has lived in Ocean Springs, MS for the last 40 years; the last eight years he was at the Villa and then LeMoyne Place.
Don loved to walk around Ocean Springs, especially the downtown area. Everyone who knew him loved him. He always greeted everyone he met with a warm smile and a funny story. He also loved children and loved to regale his old World War II stories to them. He was never at a loss for words, and had more incredible experiences than most people have in a lifetime.
Don lost both of his parents, Fred and Vivian Port, at a very young age. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers and his sister, as well as his best friend, David Frye.
He is survived by his cousins, Carrie, John, and Rex Wheeler of Tulsa, OK; Hazel Browning, Connie Coleman, Theresa Pryor from Bixby, OK; and Beverly Taylor of Tacoma, WA. He also leaves behind his most cherished adopted family, Jane Frye, Amy Frye Johnson (Rhett); his two adopted granddaughters, Saylor and Sydney Johnson, and the entire Frye family.
Visitation will be from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs. A procession will leave the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. for graveside services at 1:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors.
