Donald James Cuevas, 79, of Gulfport died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Gulfport. Mr. Cuevas was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast.
He retired from Mississippi Power Company after 37 years of service and then established an electrical engineering consulting business. Throughout the years he was involved with a number of civic and commercial projects, the most recent being , the Saenger Theatre, Biloxi Library, and Maritime Museum.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport. He was also a member of Gulfport Yacht Club, The Great Southern Club, the Great Southern Golf Club, and the Century Club. In January of 1957 he was presented the Distinguished Service Award Young Man of the Year by the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Cuevas was preceded in death by his parents O. J. Cuevas and Nell Young.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Chandler Cuevas of Gulfport; a daughter, Debe Cuevas Lykes and her husband, Jed of Tampa, FL; and a granddaughter, Anne Chandler Lykes of Tampa.
The funeral service will be Friday, June 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 12 noon until the service. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi.
