Donnie and Marge Gum

Donnie and Marge Gum of Gautier, MS formerly of Ocean Springs, MS passed away February 13th, 2013. They were longtime residents of Ocean Springs and members of the Local 2501 the Elks Lodge. Marge served as queen in 2001 and Donnie served as king in 2007. They were also members of the Poor Man’s Yacht Club. Donnie was born November 20, 1947 in Biloxi to Lawrence and Maggie Gum. He was a graduate of Ocean Springs High School. He retired from Mississippi Phosphates after 40 years. He enjoyed spending his time golfing, camping and cooking. Donnie is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Brenda Gum; brothers, Ronnie Gum and Jerry Gum; and brother in law Mack McVey. Marge was the eldest of three, who was always willing to assume the role of big sister. She was born June 3rd 1947 to Margaret Ann and Joseph Albert Holmes in Muskegon, MI, where she was raised and lived. She married Donnie Gum in 1988, which became a union from where they would be inseparable in life as in death. Marge is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph A. Holmes, Jr.; and sister, Patricia Marie Holmes. Their survivors include their four children Connie Gum Jarrett, husband Bobby; Troy Brown, wife Gina; Jason Gum, wife Demisha; and Stacey Brown Znachko; Donnie’s sister, Sandy McVey; Marge’s brother and sister, Robert Harvey Holmes, Mary Holmes Sorensen, husband Mark; grandchildren, Amanda Jarrett, Justin Johnson, Hannah Cruse, Tyler Jarrett, Jordan Brown, Brandon Jarrett, Tori Gum, Zach Znachko, Hailey Brown and K’Lee Gum; numerous nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend Vincent Noble. Their grandchildren became the focus of their lives along with the endless work in the community that came with a long list of friends. In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorials to be made to Ladies Auxiliary BPOE, 2501 Scholarship Fund, 2501 Beach View Drive, Ocean Springs, MS 3964. A memorial service will be held at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. Friends may visit 5:00 p.m. until service time.
