Mr. Donovan Ward Penrod, age 72, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, MS. He was born on March 11, 1935, to William Henry and Beulah Faye Penrod of Rittman, OH. He graduated from Alliance High School in Alliance, Ohio and the University of Southern Mississippi. He also spent twenty years as an officer in the United States Air Force before his retirement in 1974. At which time, he became an accountant. Mr. Penrod was a long-standing member of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra as a musician, board member and guild patron. After his retirement from accounting, he donated his time to meals-on-wheels and teaching violin to local children. Mr. Penrod was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Lynne Bargerstock and twin brother Dennison. Survivors include his wife, Mollie McCraw Penrod of Ocean Springs, MS., a son, M/Sgt. Lawrence Penrod and wife, Melissa, of Okinawa, Japan, a daughter, Emily and husband, Dr. Thomas Woodyard, of Macon, GA., a sister, Jean and husband Clifford Grove, of Homeworth, OH and brother, Lyle David Penrod and wife, Lorrie of Tacoma, WA. He will be lovingly remembered by his seventeen nieces and nephews and will live on through his grandchildren, Donovan and Rebecca Penrod and Katelyn, Michael, Rachael and Ian Woodyard. On Monday, May 21, 2007, there will be a 1 PM Memorial Service at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made to the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 542, Biloxi, MS., 39533. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
