Doris E. "Nicky" Alford Edwards, 86, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011. Mrs. Edwards was born and raised in Jackson, MS. She was a graduate of Central High School in Jackson. She married her husband of 33 years, Frank, on July 12, 1946. She went to work for Stuart C. Irby Electrical Supply in Jackson in 1954 until 1969 when she left to travel with Frank who was then working with S.C.I. After the passing of Frank in 1979, she went back to work for S.C.I. until she retired in 1985 and then moved to the Gulf Coast/Ocean Springs. In her retirement, she was an avid gardener which was her passion. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, dancing and music. But Mrs. Edwards' biggest passion was enjoying nature and all its bountiful gifts.
She is preceded in death by her parents, W.R. and Marie Alford; husband, C. Frank Edwards; sisters, Marie Alford, Mignon Louise Wiley; brothers, Wiley Richard Alford, Jr., O.T. "Rookie" Alford and Francis Ronnie Alford.
Mrs. Edwards is survived by her sons, Terry L. Edwards of Ocean Springs and Bobby and his wife, Sandra Edwards also of Ocean Springs; brother, Jimmy Donald (Mary Joyce) Alford of Hollywood, MD; daughter-in-law, Judy Edwards Jennings of Downsville, LA; sisters-in-law, Dottie Dale Hughes of Fairhope, AL and Wilma Neas Loga of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Brandon (Patches) Edwards of Jackson, MS, Leigh (Chris) Harris of Lecanto, FL, Chad (Candace) Edwards of Birmingham, AL and Heather Edwards of Ocean Springs; great-grandchildren, Ela Harris of Lecanto, FL and Emily Edwards of Birmingham, AL and a special niece, Linda Zirkle of Ocean Springs.

A celebration of life will be held from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Lakewood Cemetery in Jackson, MS.
