Doris H. Ochsner

Gulfport native, Doris H. Ochsner, 88, died Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Stonebridge of Montgomery in Skillman, NJ, where she had lived since 2004. As the wife of Commander Robert Ochsner, Doris had lived in California, Virginia and Maryland, before returning to Gulfport in 1966 when Robert retired from Naval service. She greatly enjoyed friends and family during the next thirty-five years on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where she was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Gulfport Woman’s Club and her sorority, the Delta Preceptor Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. Her last years were marked by serious illness, the death of her daughter, Susan, in 2000 and her husband, Robert, in 2006, but she remained a serene and deeply kind spirit to all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michele Ochsner and Terry Lyons of Princeton, son-in-law Thomas Prince, and four adult grandchildren—Robert and John Prince, and Samuel and Elisabeth Ertel, and her dear friend and caregiver, Rachael Kargbo. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the First Methodist Church of Gulfport where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, in Gulfport is in charge of arrangements. Donations in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, 2301 15th St., Gulfport, MS 39501, or the Stonebridge Employee Fund, 100 Hollinshead Spring Rd, Skillman, NJ 08558.
