Doris H. Seymour, age 87, of the Latimer Community went to be with the Lord on September 1, 2011. She was born October 11, 1923 in Opp, AL and spent the rest of her life as a co-pastor with a passion for reaching the lost for Christ. In 1939 Doris attended Southeastern Bible College. While in school at SEBC she met her future husband and love of her life, James Clifton Seymour. She graduated from Southeastern ranking second in her class in 1944. They married in 1944 after Doris graduated from SEBC. The morning after they were married they were called back to the college where James accepted the position of Dean of Men and Doris became Secretary/Treasurer for a year. In 1945 they left Southeastern to pastor West Highland Assembly of God (A/G) in Andulsia, AL. Their first son Rodney was born in Hartford, AL where they pastored Post Oak A/G. Other churches they pastored included: Mt. Carmel A/G in Newton, AL; First A/G of Quincey, FL; Shady Grove A/G in Baker, FL where their second son Jeff was born; First A/G in Jonesboro, LA; Bayou Gauche A/G, LA where their third son Jerry was born. They also founded the Des Allemands and Boute A/G. Then they pastored Westwego A/G LA; La Grange A/G GA; Evangel A/G in Laurel, MS where they helped establish Eastside A/G; Pascagoula A/G MS; University A/G in Hattiesburg, MS where they served as campus ministers for the University of Southern MS. In 1976 they went back to Pascagoula where they opened “Promise House”. Promise House is a part of Teen Challenge a national organization ministering to teenage girls. (Memorial Fund 229-769-8332)From 1977-1979 they conducted daily prayer meetings at the ship yard in Pascagoula. They retired in 1979 and in 1981 returned to Bayou Gauche as Associate Pastors for 5 yrs. In all, under their leadership as pastors there were 55 who entered the ministry and they started 5 new churches. Doris has 2 living siblings: a sister Sarah E. Bunson and a brother Jimmy Leon Hargrove. She was preceded in death by her husband James C. Seymour; parents Francis Dudley Hargrove and Edie Stanley Hargrove; brothers Hubbert Dudley Hargrove, Wilford Nathaniel Hargrove, Sherron Hobbie Hargrove, and Eldridge Hinnon (Nig) Hargrove; sister Mildred Joyce Nobels. Survivors include three sons: Rodney and wife Brenda of Vancleave, Jeff and wife Marilyn of Beavercreek, OH, and Jerry and wife Barbara of Greer, SC; one granddaughter: Elizabeth Jeananne Seymour of Jacksonville, FL; 3 grandsons; Chris Seymour of Clermont, FL, Jonathan Seymour, wife Amanda, great-grandson Nolan and great-grand-daughter to be born in September of Greer, SC, and Ryan Seymour and wife Katie of Tyndal AFB, FL. The family wishes to extend a warm invitation to visitation from 10:00 am until start of service at 11:00 am on Saturday September 10, 2011 in the Chapel of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home at 911 Porter Ave in Ocean Springs, MS. Burial will follow in the family cemetery on Jim Ramsay Cutoff Road Latimer, MS. Her sons, grandsons and granddaughter will serve as Pall Bearers.
