Doris James Johnson was born December 22, 1954 to Percy and Annie Mae James of Tchula, Mississippi. She is the seventh of thirteen children. Mrs. Johnson grew up attending Sunday school and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a nine year-old girl. She graduated high school from Tchula Attendance Center (voted Ms. TAC) and went on to excel in her education graduating magna cum laude from Mississippi Valley State University in 1977 with a degree in Accounting. Mrs. Johnson sang soprano in her school choir, church choir and continued to sing duets with her husband, Kenneth W. Johnson whom she married on November 29, 1976. She was a Sunday school teacher and junior mission matron who taught teenage girls the value of human life by giving to others and ministering to the elderly in nursing homes. In addition, she went on to become a full time minister with her husband and home-schooled her four children, Melissa, Timothy, Marcus and Sarah. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed watching cartoons, bowling, Hallmark movies, old black and white movies, playing board games plus baking sweets for birthdays and holidays. She was an excellent seamstress who loved creating beautiful outfits as well as quilts. Doris James Johnson departed this earth on July 10, 2015 and leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband, four children, grandchildren, eight sisters, four brothers, aunt, uncle plus a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 17, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 8910 Carl Legett Road, Gulfport, MS 39503. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations towards medical expenses to an account in memory of Doris Johnson at Keesler Federal Credit Union and any donations towards funeral cost may be sent to Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 677, Ocean Springs, MS 39566.
