Doris Ann Brasher King

Doris Ann Brasher King, age 83, passed away peacefully as she was surrounded by her beloved family on December 28, 2021, in Gulfport, MS.

Doris was born in Aniston, AL on February 17, 1938, to the late Samuel and Audrey Brasher. She was one out of many in her large and rambunctious family. Doris married her devoted husband, James on August 3, 1957, after meeting him for the first-time months prior. The term, “Love at first sight” could be no truer as she shared an amazing legacy with “her Jim”, sharing 64 years of love, laughter, and tears. Most importantly, Doris was a terrific and doting mother. Her children were her life and there was never a day that went by where she wasn’t bragging about them. Doris was a strong and loving woman and was never known to yell or raise her voice to anyone. She walked proudly through this life with gentleness and generosity of the Spirit. She was thoughtful and kind, always calling to check on others. Those that were able to know Doris are so grateful to have loved her and to have experienced her love.

Doris was a long-time member of the Krewe of Gemini and served as their Vice President. She always enjoyed the friendship and joy of the Mardi Gras holiday. Everyone knew a few things about Doris and aside from her family and friends at the Krewe, you knew that you didn’t mess with Doris’s hair. Her sense of humor showed even up until the very end when she still teased the respiratory care team at the hospital with a pointed finger and the statement, “Did you mess up my hair?”

Doris is preceded in death by her oldest son, James Thomas King Jr. (Jimmy) who left this Earth too soon but, has now been reunited with his dear mother. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim; daughters, Debra Lynn King Glidewell (Frankie) and Cathy Diane King (Cynthia); numerous grandchildren; and her great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doris’s memory to the Make a Wish Foundation.
