Dorothy E. "Granny Goose" Burrus Christensen, age 82, of Gulfport, died Monday, January 26, 2009 in Gulfport.
She was the owner of the Pompus Room in Biloxi and a package store in Handsboro. She worked for Gus Stevens until Hurricane Camille. After Camille she was a homemaker who enjoyed interior decorating, gardening, growing flowers, cooking and occasionally enjoyed slots at the casino. She was an antique diva.
Mrs. Christensen was preceded in death by the father of her children, Elvin J. Cuevas, Sr., her husband of 29 years, Verdia I. "Bulley" Christensen; her parents, Jasper and Madeline Burrus; two sons, John Cuevas and Todd W. O. Cuevas; two grandchildren, Amber Cuevas and Todd Cuevas, Jr.; two sisters, Gloria Graham and Elizabeth Wells; and a brother, Billy Burrus.
She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Dyan Barrett; one son; ten grandchildren, Thomas A Campbell, Timothy C. Barrett, Dorothy La Chriseja Elisaga, Christopher Cuevas, Kevin Quevas, Keith Cuevas, Angela Cuevas, Rachel Cuevas, C.C. Lewis, and George Brandon Lewis; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road, Gulfport where friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
