Mrs. Dorothy Elizabeth Jenkins Lyons, age 85, of Biloxi, MS., died Thursday, May 19, 2005, in Gulfport, MS.
Mrs. Lyons was born on March 4, 1920, in Paulsboro, NJ. She was the female half of "The Graduating Grandparents" of 1973, graduating from the former Glassboro State College in New Jersey. She and her husband, James, graduated together at the age of 53. They went on to teach in New Jersey and Missouri. Dorothy was in scouting organizations for many decades, along with her husband. Having done extensive traveling with her family, Dorothy has been in all fifty states, Mexico and Canada.
Mrs. Lyons was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Lyons, Sr, her parents, Raymond and Alva Jenkins, and two sisters. She is survived by four daughters, Dottie Lyons of Biloxi, MS., Carolyn Fox of Carrollton, GA., Martha Cofer of Mobile, AL., Ruthie Proctor of Gravois Mills, MO., a son, James Edwin Lyons, Jr., of Kingsville, MO., a sister, Gladys Zinni of Franklinville, NJ, eight grandchildren, Marc, Steven, and Rodney Hurley, Dominic Berenato, Christine Ervin, Laura Barnum, James Edwin Lyons, III, and Megan Riley, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, four nieces and several other relatives in New Jersey.
Visitation will be on Sunday, May 22, 2005, from 6-8 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Monday, May 23, 2005, there will be a 9:00 AM graveside service in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
