Dorothy "Dottie" Field Inman

Dorothy “Dottie” Field Inman of Vancleave, Mississippi passed away on April 13, 2025.

She was born on December 31, 1946, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, growing up as a “military brat” living all over the world. She returned home to attend the University of Southern Mississippi, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. She taught 3rd and 7th grade in the Ocean Springs School System until retiring in 2007. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority and a Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) Little Sister.

Dottie enjoyed everything about her grandchildren, saltwater fishing, traveling (cruising), cooking, gardening, being with friends and family, and especially teaching. Her enthusiasm for teaching went so far as to having a miniature zoo in her classroom. The staff enjoyed an occasional search for escaped garter snakes and the class mascot mouse! She was a loving, witty, and compassionate soul whose warmth touched everyone around her. As a dedicated teacher, she left a lasting impact on her students and community. Her sharp sense of humor could light up any room, and her passion for cooking made every meal a memorable gathering. A true gourmet in the kitchen and a nurturer at heart, she created comfort not just through her meals, but through her presence. Her legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will be cherished forever.

Dottie is preceded in death by her parents, Richard M. Field and Dorothy Hosemann Field; and brother, Richard J. Field.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Kenneth “Kenny” Inman Jr.; sister, Patricia Field Doerr; sons, Kenneth “Kenny” Inman III (Jennifer), Graham Field Inman (Patricia), Dell Curtis “Curt” Inman II, and Wesley Scott Inman (Hannah); and 10 grandchildren.

On April 13th, Heaven called Nana home. The family thanks the Lighthouse Memory Care (especially the staff in Cottage F) and Enhabit Hospice for the care they provided for her.

In lieu of flowers, expressions or memorial contributions may be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.

A visitation will be held from 2:00- 3:00 pm on Tuesday April 22, 2025 at the Bradford- O’Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs. Services will follow from 3:00 pm. Burial will be at a later date at the Biloxi National Cemetery.
