Dorothy Mitchell, 79, a resident of Biloxi, since 1949, was born in Lumberton, MS. She resided in Picayune, MS, at the time of her marriage to Ray F. Mitchell on December 22, 1946. She worked beside her husband in his Optometric practice for more than 40 years. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Dr. Ray F. Mitchell, retired Optometrist, a son, Dr. Jim Mitchell, a daughter, Marsha Mitchell, four grandchildren, two great-grandsons, three sisters, Miss Billie Harmon of Picayune, MS, Mrs. Emmett (Audie) Smith of Picayune, Mrs. Charles (JoAnn) Newman of Hattiesburg, MS. Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harmon of Picayune, MS, a sister, Mrs. J.D. (Thelma) Lewis of Tylertown, MS, two brothers, Otto Harmon and Earlton Harmon. Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Biloxi, of more than fifty-five years, teaching Sunday School classes of all ages for most of that time. She is recognized for loving her family, her church and friends. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and many friends, but all the knew her know that she is at peace in her heavenly home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a gift be made to the First Baptist Church in her honor. Visitation will be at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Ave. from 6pm-9pm, Thursday, March 31. The service will be at First Baptist Church, Biloxi, Popps Ferry Road, Friday, April 1 at 2 pm with visitation from 1pm-2pm prior to the service. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to he many friends who have offered and provided love and support during her illness.
