Dorothy Lucille Hebert Schrieber, 88 of Long Beach, MS, peacefully passed away at home on December 12th, 2024, after a difficult battle with a long term illness.
Dorothy was born in Biloxi, MS, to Lee Joseph Hebert and Louise Mary Rushing. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1956. Having cared for her Grandmother during her final years, Dorothy found her passion was nursing. She attended college at Perkinston Campus and after completing Clinical Study was certified as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1962. She cared for patients all along the MS Gulf Coast, including Gulfport Memorial Hospital, Howard Memorial Hospital, and The Care Center as well as some Private Duty Nursing.
On May 13, 1962, Dorothy married Allen “Laddie” Schrieber and over their 23 years of marriage they had six children. Despite being busy as a homemaker, Dorothy continued to work Private Duty Nursing until about 1973. Afterwards, she immersed herself in her children’s many pursuits. She was involved in her son’s Scouting, pushing him to earn Eagle Scout and then supporting his Air Force career. Diann was inspired to pursue a medical technology career, retiring after 33 years from the hospital that Dorothy began her nursing career in. Dorothy’s compassion and love inspired Susan to dedicate her life to her family, and caring for animals in her Veterinary career. Lisa relocated to Florida, and raised a family while advancing in her professional career. Amy was Mom’s companion for many years while establishing her professional career in the Gaming Industry. Angela was called home early after a battle with Leukemia.
Dorothy was predeceased by her father, Lee Hebert; her mother, Louise Allman; her husband, Allen “Laddie” Schrieber; and her daughters, Angela and Susan.
She is survived by her beloved companion, Boo Boo Kitty; her son, Allen J. Schrieber (Suzette); her daughters, Diann Strange, Lisa Corley (Rustin), Amy Mimms (Ken); and her sisters, Mary Bailey, Doris Mortimore, and Delores Grady. One of Dorothy’s greatest joys in life was the time she spent with her 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. She often reminisced of her time caring for Ashlee Guinn, Katie Pratt (Franklin), Savannah Anderson (Richard) and Lyndsey Anderson and her fierce love for each of them. She spoke with affection of Aidan Corley, who had “gone off to become a weatherman”. While she only briefly met her many Great Grandchildren, she swelled with love and pride each time she recounted those meetings with Anneliese, Juniper and Leon.
Through marriages, she gained Stephen (Molly), Jenifer (Xavier), Brittany, CJ (Hannah), Stephanie (Steven), Tabathia, Bryan and Great Grandchildren Charlie John, Percy, Addie Jo, Isabella, Elenor, and Willow. We know she will continue to watch over and guide them from above.
Dorothy’s wishes were for a traditional burial service. Funeral Services will be held at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Friends may visit from 12:00 pm until service time. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park.
Many thanks to Father Patrick (Paddy) Mockler, Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home and St Joseph Hospice, along with Memorial Hospital and her many providers who cared tirelessly for Dorothy. God Bless.
