Douglas Paul Vermillion, 49, of Vancleave passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2006 in Birmingham, AL after a 10 year battle with liver disease. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He was born on August 29, 1956 in Okinawa, Japan. As a child his father was in the Air Force and their family lived in several places in the United States and abroad. His family retired in Biloxi, when Doug was in high school. He attended St. Martin High School where he was an all-star football player, Class of 1974. He then attended Perkinston Jr. College, where he was given the nick-name "Wild Man" that stayed with him all of his days. He is a life-long member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Doug is remembered for his love of family and friends and his strong faith. Doug is retired from the Ocean Springs Fire Department and served in the United States Army as well as the United States Air Force. He is a Veteran of Desert Storm and is retired from the United States Air Force. In his spare time he was an excellent carpenter and enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Chella Mae Vermillion and his mother-in-law, Peachie Cvitanovich. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Angela Vermillion; sons Douglas Paul Vermillion II and Anthony Michael Vermillion "Tony Mac"; his father-in-law, Sam Cvitanovich; he is also survived by a brother, Jack Vermillion; a sister, Cathy Barsky and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 6:00 till 9:00 pm at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'keefe Funeral Homes. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am, with a 9:45 am procession on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs. Burial to follow at Cvitanovich-Vermillion Cemetery in Vancleave.
