Dr. Charles E. Thompson, born March 6, 1922 in Buena Vista, PA, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005. He was 83.
Dr. Thompson was a graduate of Allegheny College. He proudly served his country for 28 years in the United States Air force and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1970. He received his Doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi and taught at U.S.M. in Long Beach and Gautier until 2004. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs and president of the Ocean Springs School Board for a number of years. Dr. Thompson coached the E.R. Moore Little League Baseball Team and was known as "Colonel". He was one of the founding members of Treasure Oak Country Club and a member of numerous organizations.
Dr. Thompson was preceded in death by his mother, Mary McCorkle; father, David Thompson; sister, Edith Childers; brother, Donald Thompson, all of Pennsylvania, and a son, Randy Thompson of Ocean Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Lloyd Lee Thompson; his son, Jeff Thompson, and his wife, Lisa; two grandchildren, Brittany and Randy Thompson, all of Ocean Springs; two sisters, June Nicholson and her husband, Bud, and Dorothy Heck, and his brother, Clare Thompson, and his wife, Dolly, of Pennsylvania.
He dearly loved life, family, friends and his students. His favorite greeting was "Are you happy and smiling today?". We would like to thank the medical staff of Keesler Air Force Base and Quality Hospice for their compassionate care and help.
Funeral services will be 1 p. m. Tuesday at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs where friends may visit from 11 a.m. till service time. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors.
