Dr. Gerald Wessler, age 92, of Gulfport, died Thursday, January 22, 2009 in Gulfport. Dr. Wessler was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dr. and Mrs. J.A. Wessler and by his brother, Adrian, an infantry captain killed in Germany during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Cardon Wessler; a daughter, Adrienne Janet Marshall; two sons, Dr. Robert Cardon Wessler and William Philip Wessler; two daughters-in-law, Barri Wessler and Nancy Wessler, and four grandchildren, Adrienne, Brent, Gerry and Zach. Dr. Wessler was a board certified urologist and practiced urology in Gulfport for 35 years. He taught at Tulane University Medical School and at Charity Hospital. He was retired as Emeritus Professor of Clinical Urology at Tulane. He received his B.A. from the University of Alabama and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Apha. Dr. Wessler entered the armed forces in 1942 and served three and a half years during World War II. He was a past member of the Power Squadron, Gulfport Yacht Club, Pass Christian Investors Club, Gulfport Rotary Club, and the Great Southern Club. He was past president of the Coast Counties Medical Society and the Century Club. Dr. Wessler was a talented water colorist and won many awards. In 2003 he wrote a monograph "How the Computer Works" which has been evaluated at a local junior college and high school. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 24th at 12:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Gulfport where friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the service.
