Edval Joseph Hughes, Sr., 78, of Biloxi passed away after a long illness Monday morning, October 3, 2011, at home surrounded by his loving family. Edval was born on November 22, 1932, in Galveston, Texas. He graduated early in 1951 from Notre Dame High School in Biloxi when his National Guard group was activated due to the Korean conflict. He served from 1951 to 1954 and retired from Civil Service at Keesler Air Force Base after 34 years of dedicated service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray E. Hughes and Margaret Corca Fitzgerald; his niece Tammy Bangs, and his brothers-in-law, John Hough and Tony Martino.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Causey Hughes and their children, Mike Cartrett and wife, Mary, Raye Marie Foreman and husband, Glenn of Biloxi, Edval J. Hughes, Jr. (Bubba) and wife, Kellie of Vancleave and Jayne Fournier and husband, Doty of Ocean Springs.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Starr Cartrett, Sarasota, Florida, Bobby Cartrett of Biloxi, Derek and Chase Foreman, and Taylor and Jared Hughes of Biloxi, Evan and Logan Hughes of Vancleave, Doty and Ashley Drew Fournier of Ocean Springs; brother, Kenneth Hughes and wife, Betty Jean of Biloxi; sisters, Margaret Martino and Brenda Viator of Biloxi and Beverly Hough of Nederland, Texas and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Quinones and the Peritoneal Dialysis nurses, Lynn, Tammy, and Gail, and St. Joseph’s Hospice, especially Rhonda and CoCo for their loving care during his illness.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D’Iberville.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until mass time.
