Edward J. Mangin, Sr.

Edward J. Mangin, 83, of Biloxi, MS passed away with family at his residence on March 8, 2011. Edward was a lifelong resident of Biloxi. He was an athlete, being captain of his football team at Notre Dame High School. He was also an amateur boxer and received headlines in New Orleans States Item sports page when he defeated a prominent New Orleans boxer. Edward was a member of a championship softball team in the local softball league. He enjoyed many happy days of fishing with his sons and brothers. Edward was a retired electrician and member of IBEW Electrical Union #903 and a life member of Biloxi Elks Lodge #606 and Knights of Columbus. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and relatives. Edward is preceded in death by his parents, Albert L., Sr. and Lorena Bessey Mangin; brother, Dr. Charles E. Mangin. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Louise Taylor Mangin; daughter, Nancy Mangin; sons, Edward (Jackie) Mangin, Jr., James (Vicki) Mangin, Greg Mangin; brothers and sisters, Albert L. Mangin, Jr., Jack F. (Melse) Mangin, Elizabeth (Andrew) Melancon, Margaret (John) Gilmartin, Berthe Mangin; grandchildren, Doug Mangin, Laura (Bryan) Patterson, Kimberly Mangin, Melissa Mangin; great-great-grandchildren, Emma and Brady Patterson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Ben Cheney, his physician and friend, the ICU Unit of Biloxi Regional Hospital, the SAAD Hospice Team and his dear home health nurse, Crystal. Visitation will be on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Biloxi. A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Nativity BVM. Interment will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.
