Eileen Mary Roll traveled up to Heaven to be with God. She trusted God and is now where she was meant to be. She now has peace within, and as a child of God, her soul has freedom to laugh, to dance, to smile with friends, to praise, and to love each one of us forever.
She knew and believed that her family and friends were angels who lifted her up to her feet when her body had trouble remembering how to fly. Eileen was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 23, 1937. She was a resident of Redford, St. Clair Shores and Monroe, Michigan, Sylvania, Ohio and Ocean Springs, MS. Eileen left this world on October 13, 2024, at Lighthouse Assisted Living.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, Gerald Roll; mother, Gertrude Schunder; and father, Paul Schunder.
She leaves behind the most precious gifts God gave to her; two sons, Douglas Roll (Pamela) of Ocean Springs, MS; Michael Roll of Golden, CO; sister, Norma Gourley of Bluffton, SC; brother, Paul Schunder of Grand Haven, MI; and brother, Gerald Schunder of Yulee, FL. The joys of her life were her grandchildren, one granddaughter, Haley Nicole Roll of Ocean Springs, MS; two grandsons, Charlie Roll of Flagstaff, AZ and James Roll of Golden, CO. Also leaving behind were so many dear and close to her heart nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews spread across the country.
Her happiest times in life were spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and dear friends across the country. She loved traveling, boating, reading, singing in the church choir and snow skiing. All of you were a joy and blessing in Eileen’s life. She had an endless amount of love and gratitude for her family and friends.
Eileen graduated from Redford Union High School Michigan, in 1954. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS and previously, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monroe, MI. She attended Mass weekly and enjoyed singing in the church choirs. Eileen was always ready to travel, both nationally and internationally, with family or friends. Gerald and Eileen loved boating, building their dream home on the shoreline of Lake Erie, skiing, and traveling together. We believe they are out boat riding today. She was also quite partial to her white wine and sharing time with family and friends.
Eileen made regular contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association of Michigan in memory of her husband Jerry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Biloxi, MS. Family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m until service time. A reception will be held in the church’s hall following mass and hosted by the St. Michael’s Bereavement community.
