Mrs. Eleanor Irline Sapp Smith, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at her home in Pass Christian after a short illness. She was born June 21, 1925 in Perkinston, MS and had been a resident of the Coast off and on since 1945. She graduated from Perkinston High School in 1943 and worked in civil service at Keesler AFB, and the Naval Sea Bee Center in Gulfport until retiring in 1981. She was a life time member of Burton Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMW and adult Sunday School Class. She was also a member of AARP, NARFE, and a life member of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Alumni Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Marion L. "Mallie" Atchison Sapp; her husband, Chester R. Smith; three brothers, Edgar Sapp, Bernard Sapp, and James Sapp; three sisters, Helen Johnson, Georgia Lee Smith, and Vesta Merle Liles; a son, John B. Smith; a grandson, William Bailey; a granddaughter, Jennifer Rouse; and a great-grandson, Lucas Bailey. Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, Rev. Robert A. Smith of Butler, PA, Ronald D. Smith and Joseph A. Smith, both of Pass Christian; three daughters, Marcia L. Smith (Bruce) of Bay St. Louis, E. Anne Bailey (Ron) of Sulphur Springs, TX, and Iris E. Coats (Terry) of Pass Christian; a sister, Nettie F. Nelson; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 18, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Perkinston Cemetery, Perkinston.
