Elizabeth "Betty" Drummond Dart

Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Drummond Dart, 93, of Simpsonville, SC, formerly of Biloxi, MS, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, August 11, 2014. Betty lived in Biloxi from 1960 - 2005, where she will be laid to rest with her husband, Lt. Colonel Raymond T. Dart. She was a very active member of Leggett Memorial United Methodist Church for 45 years. After Hurricane Katrina, she moved to be with her oldest daughter, Mary, in Simpsonville, SC. She was a member of Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church. She was born in Beloit, Wisconsin to Mr. and Mrs. James Drummond. At an early age, she began to grasp how things were put together and the order of parts that were needed next on an assembly line. She took these skills from a Wisconsin shoe factory to a McDonald Douglas Aircraft plant in Riverside, California as a Scheduler. It was there that she met Lt. Colonel Raymond T. Dart, a pilot in the Army Air Corp, and the two were married May 3, 1945. Our mother was a very caring and nurturing woman, caring for her husband for almost 56 years, raising three children, Marybeth and her husband, Colonel Wilbur T. Zettler, LTC Jonathan T. Dart of Havre de Grace, Maryland, and Jane, wife of Dennis Cummings of West Allis, Wisconsin. As we reflect on the love, dedication, and support she has poured into our lives, we remember the strong convictions and her incredibly strong faith. In Biloxi, she was a long time member of Leggett Memorial United Methodist Church and served in many leadership capacities. She was involved in a number of community activities including the PTA and President of the Biloxi Garden Club. Her gardens were always manicured meticulously and spotted with exotic roses, azaleas, and Crepe Myrtles, and had been recognized as "Yard of the Month" many times. Her garden was her pride and joy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Benevolence/Deacons Fund at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church, 2519 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, SC 29681. Visitation will be Thursday, August 14, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 2511 Pass Road, in Biloxi. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Southern Memorial Park.
