Elizabeth "Betty" Galliher

Elizabeth “Betty” Stevenson Jensen Galliher, 102 of D’Iberville, MS passed away on May 14, 2024.

She was born in Jeffersonville, PA, to Regius and Margaret Stevenson in 1922.  She graduated from Norristown High in 1939 with honors as the Pennsylvania State Champion in Shakespearean Reading.  She attended Ursinus College for 2 years, but then quit college to work as a technician at Atlantic Refining to help in the World War 2 effort. She married Navy Lt. Arden Jensen in 1945, and they moved to Miami, Florida, where both of her children were born.  She returned to college and graduated from Barry College.  She did graduate work at both the University of Miami and the University of South Carolina.  In 1962 she married Claiborne Galliher and worked many years as a reference librarian and teacher.  They retired to Ocean Springs.  After her husband’s death, Betty went to Czechoslovakia to teach English.  She volunteered at “Education for Democracy” and helped send 1,200 teachers to the newly liberated Eastern European countries.   She was a volunteer librarian at Walter Anderson Museum of Art for 5 years.  She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Chapter D of P.E.O, TOPS#281 and the Tuesday Morning Morning Glories

Survivors include her son, Arden Jensen (Denise) of Cleveland, TN; Daughter, Margaret Reynolds of Ocean Springs; grandchildren, Larry Stewart of Phoenix, AZ, Leah Jensen-Rader (Danny) of Franklin, TN, Anna Jensen-Nejad (Al) of Jacksonville, FL, James Jensen of Phoenix, AZ, and Daniel Jensen of Cleveland, TN.  She also is survived by three great grandchildren, Benjamin, Jude, and David Rader of Franklin, TN.

A memorial service and interment will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church at a future date.
