Elsie Day Cruthirds Hutto, age 78, died Sunday, October 13, 2013 in Gretna, LA. She was born in Bond, MS, was a resident of Gulfport for over 40 years and a resident of Terrytown, LA since Hurricane Katrina. She was a member of Heritage Bible Church in Gretna, LA.
She graduated from high school in Wiggins and was a graduate of USM where she received her degree in piano and music education and a degree in elementary education. Elise received a masters degree in music from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She also had a Masters and Doctorate degree in Bible Theology. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Metairie Music Club, and was a published poet. She is listed in the International Society of Poets. She was also a member of Gulfport’s Woman’s Club, Gulfport Garden Club, and was Historic Trails Chairman for the Garden Clubs of Mississippi. One of the highlights of Mrs. Hutto’s music travels was when she was invited to become an Associate Judge in the International Piano Competition in Cincinnati, OH.
She served as an organist for many Gulf Coast Churches in her music career and taught in Picayune, Long Beach, Forrest County, Pass Christian and Gulfport.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Clifton Hutto, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Clifton Wayne Hutto and his wife, Cynthia of Belle Chasse, LA; a brother, Niles Day Cruthirds of Columbus; and a granddaughter, Julia Ann Hutto of Belle Chasse, LA.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 18, 2013 from 11:00 am until 12:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Wiggins.
