My father just died and I wanted the world to know just how special he was and what it meant to me to grow up having him as a father. He was a Major and a Navigator in the Air Force. His duty and his pride in the USA was an important part of his life. After he retired from the Air Force he was the Mississippi Wing Commander of the Civil Air Patrol and a Lt. Col for several years. He retired as an engineer at Northrup Grumman where he helped design the Navy ships. He loved fast car, motorcycles, boats and he loved to fly planes. He taught us old fashioned values that you just don't see in today's generation. I feel very blessed to have had him as a father. Two years ago on Father's Day I wrote him a poem trying to tell him how I felt about him. Alot of people miss the chance to tell their loved ones just how much they mean to them. I was lucky because I was able to write a poem and thank him for all he has done for me and my family. He loved this poem. I wanted to share it with everyone so they would know that Elton "Pete" Amos Barrillieaux was one in a million and he will be missed until the day the Good Lord sees fit to bring us together again. This poem is my tribute to my special HERO, who was more than just a name with a date of birth and death in a newspaper announcement. Daddy's Poem" Well today is Father's Day and it's time to show I care, To the man who was my hero as he was flying through the air. How do I begin to tell the story from the start, of a little girl just like you a tomboy in my heart. I remember laughter and motorcycles rides, I remember winters with snowmen built outside. I remember riding on shoulders that were strong, I remember lectures when I'd done something wrong. I learned responsibility from the military man, I know security when you were there to hold my hand. I remember patience through my trying teenage years, I remember driving lessons that filled us all with fear. I remember dancing in that weird old fashioned way, I remember your pride in me on my graduation day. I remember my wedding when you gave away my hand, I know it wasn't easy to give me to that man. I remember show tunes that always filled the air, But the thing that I remember most is that you were always there. I always took for granted the things you did for me, I never seemed to find a way to thank you properly. You've been there for my children and at times it's been like hell, For they're not the little angels like you find in fairytales. You've seen us through a lot of things you've been there for us all, And I still love you like the little girl whose Daddy stood so tall. And now I'd like to thank you for being by my side, You'll always be my HERO that I brag about with pride. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
